Elmer's Shack For me it all started
in the early Sixties with A World in turmoil; Kennedy, Viet Nam, The Cold War, Cuba,
"Duck & Cover"???, Etc., Etc., Etc. Huddled in the corner of my bedroom; hunched over
my desk late into the night. The glow of an old tube Short Wave Receiver the only
light needed. A set of WWII Cans on my ears. The World and America seen not just
through the eyes of my Parents, Teachers, Clergy, & Local/National News; But
through the eyes of the WORLD itself!
Then Whiskey 9
Pretty Lousy Transmission (Elmer Deming W9PLT (SK)) introduced me
to AMATEUR RADIO!
Elmer Deming worked with me in Amateur Radio Theory & Application (Antennas, Propagation,
Electricity & how to avoid it's bite, Circuits, Frequencies & Bands, CODE!!! (Yep, he actually got me to that MAGIC 5wpm???),....). Elmer also spoke about
Traditions, Lore, Friendship, Fun, and Responsibility of Amateur Radio.
Elmer Deming was not just teaching me Theory... he was Schooling me in
THE PRACTICE OF AMATURE RADIO... HOW TO BE A GOOD HAM CITIZEN!!!
Yeah, Elmer was MY ELMER.
